Raw Since 1975
Origin Story
Fifty years ago, David Otto became a vegetarian to improve his health. He began to experiment with his Champion Juicer to create fresh juice that was alkalizing and healing. After sharing his creations with family and friends, Otto was encouraged to sell his salubrious brews to the greater Los Angeles community. In 1975, he opened a store on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, located between Beverly Hills Health Club for Men and Beverly Hills Health Club for Women. Otto decided to follow suit and called his store Beverly Hills Juice Club, eventually shortening it to Beverly Hills Juice. In 1979, Beverly Hills Juice moved to its current location on Beverly Boulevard.
In Memory
David Otto (1936-2022)
Husband to Jennifer; father to Erika, Ehret, and Philip; grandfather to Sirius and James; brother-in-law to Gerta and Lea; and friend to so many in this beautiful community that he helped create during his eighty-five years in Los Angeles.
David opened Beverly Hills Juice, after leaving a career as a music agent, so he could make juice for his family and community. He loved juice and wanted to share its healing benefits with all. He welcomed and helped others to get into the juice business, seeing them as allies rather than competitors. He strongly believed that a world with more juice was a better world.
Local Ingredients
Beverly Hills Juice supports local, organic agriculture. We adapt our menu to the seasons and source most of our ingredients from local farms. We love to buy from farmer’s markets, where the average farmer travels 150 miles to get her crop to market. Tropical fruits including coconuts, bananas, ginger, and turmeric are not typically grown in California, and are sourced from organic suppliers.
Sustainable Business Practices
Since 1975 Beverly Hills Juice has operated under a strong ethical code that promotes a healthy and balanced way of life. Our appreciation and gratitude for the earth is reflected in everything that we do. We continually search for the best practices that will limit our environmental impact, decrease our use of petroleum-based products, and contribute to the regeneration of the earth’s polluted resources.
Some of our sustainable business practices include:
We purchase organic produce from local farmers and consider the carbon footprint of all of our purchases and actions.
Our juice bottles are made from 100% post-consumer recycled PET.
Disposable cups and straws are made from plant based, compostable materials.
We do not give out disposable bags. We sell re-usable bags that are made in the U.S. with organic cotton.
All paper products used are 100% recycled.
All cleaning products used at our store are organic, plant based, and biodegradable.
All food scraps are commercially composted.
A Note About Organic
We support organic agriculture for both the health and environmental benefits that result from growing without the use of commercial fertilizers and pesticides. Some small farmers that we support do not use commercial fertilizers or pesticides, but do not have organic certification. These ingredients are labeled as non-organic.
